Breathing and Respiratory Complications Linked to Saddle Nose Deformities

Saddle nose deformity, characterized by a depression or collapse of the nasal bridge, not only affects facial aesthetics but also poses significant respiratory complications. At the forefront of addressing these concerns is Dr. Maurice Khosh at Saddle Nose Repair, a renowned expert in nasal cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Let’s explore the various breathing and respiratory issues linked to saddle nose deformities and how specialized surgical repair can alleviate these conditions.

Saddle nose deformity occurs when the bridge of the nose collapses, creating a concave appearance. This condition can result from trauma, previous surgeries, congenital defects, infections, or inflammatory diseases such as Wegener’s granulomatosis. The structural compromise often leads to impaired nasal function, contributing to a host of respiratory complications.

Snoring and Saddle Nose Deformity

Snoring is a common issue associated with saddle nose deformity. The collapse of the nasal bridge can obstruct airflow, causing vibrations in the throat tissues during sleep. This obstruction can be exacerbated by the narrowing of the nasal passages, making it difficult to breathe freely through the nose. As a result, individuals with saddle nose deformity are more likely to snore, which can disrupt sleep quality and lead to daytime fatigue.

Sinus Issues

The structural changes in the nose due to saddle nose deformity can also impede proper sinus drainage. The sinuses are air-filled spaces within the facial bones that connect to the nasal cavity. When the nasal passages are obstructed, it can lead to poor sinus ventilation and drainage, resulting in chronic sinusitis. Symptoms of chronic sinusitis include nasal congestion, facial pain, pressure, and frequent infections. Effective treatment of the saddle nose deformity can restore normal sinus function and alleviate these persistent sinus issues.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)

One of the more severe complications linked to saddle nose deformity is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). OSA is characterized by repeated episodes of partial or complete obstruction of the upper airway during sleep, leading to disrupted breathing. The nasal obstruction caused by a collapsed nasal bridge can contribute to or worsen OSA. Symptoms of OSA include loud snoring, choking or gasping during sleep, excessive daytime sleepiness, and difficulty concentrating. Left untreated, OSA can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and stroke.

Breathing Difficulties

Breathing difficulties are a primary concern for individuals with saddle nose deformity. The collapse of the nasal bridge narrows the nasal passages, making it challenging to breathe comfortably through the nose. This often forces individuals to breathe through their mouth, which can lead to dry mouth, sore throat, and increased susceptibility to respiratory infections. Correcting the structural deformity through surgical intervention can significantly improve nasal airflow and overall respiratory function.

Saddle Nose Repair by Dr. Maurice Khosh

Dr. Maurice Khosh is a leading specialist in saddle nose repair, employing advanced techniques to restore both the form and function of the nose. The surgical approach involves reconstructing the nasal bridge using cartilage grafts, which can be harvested from the patient’s own body or synthetic materials. This reconstruction not only enhances the nasal appearance but also reopens the nasal passages, alleviating respiratory complications.

Saddle nose repair offers numerous benefits beyond cosmetic improvement. By addressing the underlying structural issues, patients can experience:

  • Improved Nasal Breathing: Restored nasal passages enhance airflow, reducing the need for mouth breathing.
  • Reduction in Snoring and OSA: By eliminating nasal obstructions, the risk of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea is significantly reduced.
  • Relief from Sinus Issues: Proper sinus drainage and ventilation are restored, alleviating chronic sinusitis symptoms.
  • Enhanced Quality of Life: Better sleep quality, improved breathing, and improved facial aesthetics contribute to overall well-being and quality of life.

Saddle nose deformity can lead to various breathing and respiratory complications, significantly impacting an individual’s quality of life. Dr. Maurice Khosh’s expertise in saddle nose repair offers a comprehensive solution to these issues, restoring both the aesthetic appearance and functional integrity of the nose. If you are experiencing snoring, sinus issues, obstructive sleep apnea, or breathing difficulties related to saddle nose deformity, consult Dr. Khosh at Saddle Nose Repair in NYC to explore your treatment options and improve your respiratory health.

Saw Dr. Khosh for a fractured nose. He reset my nose beautifully (and with little discomfort to me) and then discussed some of my sinus issues with me upon my follow up visit. Never felt like he was rushing me out and felt very confident in his abilities. I would highly recommend to anyone needing plastic or reconstructive options!

Upon hearing of the overwhelmingly positive experience a friend of mine had in choosing Dr. Khosh as her surgeon, I decided to make an appointment for my own septoplasty/rhinoplasty/turbinate reduction. Although I was slightly skeptical as the praise I had heard seemed a bit hyperbolic, all uncertainty dissipated after meeting the Doctor and his staff. My pre- and post-operative experience was excellent in terms of concerns adequately addressed prior to the surgery and mitigation of any bruising in the convalescent period. Despite my apparent predisposition to rather slower healing, a year after the surgery, my nose looks really pretty and my breathing entirely unobstructed! I highly recommend Dr. Khosh!

AMAZING!!!!!! I had Dr Khosh perform lipo on my chin/neck and my result is unbelievable! Better than I could have expected! I met with a couple of surgeons and the second I met with Dr Khosh I knew he was the one I was going with. He was compassionate and explained every detail of what would take place during the surgery and what to expect during recovery. I even emailed a few times during recovery with various questions and he got right back to me asap which was really comforting! I honestly fully recommend Dr Khosh, he did an amazing job and is an amazing person.
